what is the meaning of transformer short circuit test?

The short circuit test is performed by short circuiting one
of the two windings, by supplying the other one with a
voltage adjustable from zero, until reaching the value of
the rated current of the winding itself. The voltage
required at this purpose can be of the order from 4 to 10%
of the winding Vn on which we perform the power supply; such
a voltage is defined short circuit voltage of the
transformer. In this test, the whole absorbed power
corresponds to the only copper losses of the two windings,
since, the low applied voltage given (in the short circuit
test of the transformer), the magnetizing current, the flux
in the core and the consequent losses are negligible. In
these conditions we determine the equivalent resistance of
the transformer.
In turn we will therefore be able to determine the
variations of the secondary voltage that take place from no-
load to load condition of the transformer itself. Even in
this test it is indifferent to supply the primary or
secondary winding. In practice it is necessary to consider
that it is suitable that the involved currents reach the
tayed value of full load both in the side of the supply
winding and in the other short circuited one. The first
value will be necessary for the instrument choice, while the
second one for the choice of the cable section to be used on
the short circuit connections.

short ckt test perform in transformer for determine the
copper loss. because in short ckt condition voltage does
not present then we easily calculate the copper loss

sc tect is conducted mainly to check the dynamic and
thermal withstanding capacity of the transformer (because
in some worst cases there may be chance of short circuit in
the power system or transformer)at the same time they find
out load losses also.....
Procedure-LV side Shorted
Hv side- current is applied,
normally 9 shorts will take,
and one thermal short

short circuit test is done to find full load parameters of
transformer like efficiency,etc.

ACTUALLY WE DETERMINE THE COPPER LOSSES BECAUSE COPPER LOSSES ARE BASICALLY EFFECTED TO THE EFFICIENCY
THE VALUE OF THE CURRENT IS VARIED ACCORDING THE LOAD SO THAT MINS BUT IN CASE OF THE TRANSFORMER THE both losses are not depend on the phase angle

transformer short circuit means to check transformer for its
efficiency ,,,, over load protection

IN THE SHORT CIRCUIT TEST WE DETERMINE THE COPPER LOSS .IN WHICH SECONDARY SIDE OF THE TRANSFORMER(LOW SIDE OF THE TRANSFORMER ) IS SHORT CKT BY THE AMMETER AND RELAY AFTER THAT WE APPLY RATED CURRENT ON THE HV SIDE OF THE TRANSFORMER AND HV SIDE A SMALL VOLTAGE ARE APPLY WHICH IS 2 TO 10% OF THE RATED VOLTAGE .SO THE VALUE OF THE VOLTAGE IS VERY LOW AS COMPARE TO THE FULL LOADED VOLTAGE .SO READING OF THE WATTMETER ARE ONLY THE READ THE VALUE OF THE COPPER LOSSES AND ALSO DETERMINE THE SHORT CKT PARAMETER Rsc , ZsC AND ALSO Xsc

how to reduce earth to neutral voltage?
What range of speed can you get with the field control method of speed control of d.c. Shunt motor?
sir , what happen if we decrease ( approx 3 inch ) the lenth of shaft in 110KW Induction , three phase motor. actually a 110KW motor is couppled with star couplling to 120TR compressor. When we doing maintenance in compressor it is required to skid the motor backword and resulting dis- alightnment . so we want to change the tyre coupling in place of existing coupling. so it is required to cut off the rotor aprox 3 inch form driving side.
