May I know the difference between the RAID and Volume Manager?

Answer Posted / sivakumar

Dear Fried,

If we see aerial way we can not identify any difference
inbetween RAID and Volume Manager. Whereas we see ground
level it seems difference. We can see those things below:-

RAID: It is an aronym for Redundant Array of Inexpensive
(or Independent) Disks. There are 6 RAID levels are
existing, which are 0-5. In solaris we are using raid-0,
raid-1, raid-5. Very few storage environemnts support RAID
levels 2,3 and 4.

VOLUME MANAGER: Which you control the devices to store the
data in expected disk. We can get back those data without
loss. For that we are using various storage methods is
called RAID LEVEL.
