KVA is the rating of power transformer, as transformer is a power source, and it has basically two types of losses one is copper and another is core loss, copper loss depends upon current and core loss depend on voltage so its rating is multiple of current and voltage i.e KVA.It is independent of load so it is independent of power factor too, hence its unit is not in KW .
