why are transformers rated in KVA and not in KW

Only the voltage (V) or Current (A) is stepped up or down and there is no change in the power (W). Power in this case is reactive power not active power so it is mentioned as KVA.

I have made a 3 phase thyristor full bridge rectifier. But at the moment it is working only for the half bridge operation. Both the half bridges are on operation separately but when i put it into full bridge operation the oscilloscope output is zero.
