if an ice cube place in a beaker contained water for some
time, wether the quantity of water inside the beaker
increases?

Answer Posted / edward the great

Wrong. I would like to point out Karan Rathod's answer is
completely and utterly rediculous and wrong. Even a
completely pure ice block would cause a decrease in water
level. This isn't due to air impurities at all. That is
obsurd. The actual reason for this phenomena is down to
hydrogen bonding that takes place in water and ice, that
causes expansion of water when it freezes [hydrogen bonds
are longer than covelant bonds causing more spaced out
structure, causing water to expand when it freezes]. By
melting ice these bonds aren't held in place and atoms are
free to move over each other, allowing a decrease in volume
and thus a decrease in displacement on water, lowering
water level. Nothing to do with the purity of water and
dissolved gas.
