In case of a beam ,main steel is provided along the longer
span because, bending moment is directly proportional to
length but why in case of one way slab main steel is
provided along shorter span while as bending takes place
along longer span?comment

beam is design considering 1m widh .in case of one way slab ,due to the compression in concrete above the neutral axis it expand and contract tension zone below axis.so the shape of the slab do not remaining rectangular but becomes trapezoidal.so in order keep it remain rectangular the remaining concrete develop stress in opposite direction due to which a secondary moment is induced in the slab(negative moment)so the reinforcement is done along shorter span.
