| Answer | GSM call flow from MS to roaming MS-
The MSC sends ISUP IAM to GMSC, GMSC analyses the dialled
digits and figure out which HLR to query and send "Send
Routing Information". HLR always knows the exact location of
mobile in the form of address of MSC/VLR.HLR sends "provide
roaming number" asking MSRN(Mobile Station Routing Number).
MSC-serving provides the MSRN in return message and HLR
forwards it to GMSC which inturn sends IAM to MSC-S.
MS MSC GMSC HLR MSC-S

| Answer | First SMS is submitted to SMSC. than it is forwarded from
there to SMS gateway. SMS Gateway retrrives Routing info
from HLR and send it to MSC. MSC gets current location from
VLR of receipent mobile and delivers Msg. |

| Answer | If a Roaming Mobile A call to a roaming mobile B,SRI query
will come to Home HLR,which then provides the exact MSC
address of roaming Mobile B.MSC where Raoming mobile B
present will provide a MSRN Which will be provided to MSC
which is current serving Roaming Mobile A via HLR.
MSRN will be used to route the Call. |

Hi I am Ramesh JTO BSNL want to know about the TEMS, a
telecom testing tools for GSM and which is the best cdma
protocol testing tools ie AGILENT or CAIT or CNT.Whether
these have same function. What are the institutes providing

| Answer | Hi Ramesh,
I have used AGILENT as well as CNT.
CNT is very user frandly tools and easy to use But for
Agilent is supposed to be the best optimization plateform
and DT tool. |

| Question |
How is the environment working in telecom protocols?. i mean
does we have to work manually with bytes calculation? or
there will be a ready tool which we just need to take report
n compare?. i have idea to this course? but i dnt knw what
going to do with this jobs? please give me informations that
can be used? n how is the scope for this? |

| Answer | Telecom protocols are wire less communication protocols
used in various communicating various portable devices. We
generallu use various tools like Agilent, sprint, etheral
soft wares. We will calculate bytes by any of these tools. |

| Answer | When messages exceed the maximum size of the SS7 packet
(272 octets) the message must be segmented. This message
type is used to send an additional segment to the
destination signaling point. |

| Answer | A message, sent in either direction during the setup or
active phase of the call(ex.inbetween ACM and ANM),
indicating that an event, which is of significance, and
should be relayed to the originating or terminating access,
has occurred. |
| Priyaranjan Satapathy |
| |
| |
| Answer | Consider any call fowarding scenario.... As soon as switch
receives Setup, it checks that the Called_Party has
forwarded option activated and so tries to forward the
call. Meanwhile, Switch sends CPG message towards
originator saying that Call is in Progress. |

| Answer | protocol testing is testing the performance and evaluate
it in working conditions
for wireless i have tried GlomoSim simulator, as it has
ability to test 100 nodes on single cpu and for thousands of
nodes multiprocessor and parallel version is reqd.

| Answer | communication between two vendors(different product makers)is
done via the protocol messages based on international
standards.to check that we've to use the tools which
supports and generate the protocol messages.
I've used the tools..,
1)abacus 5000>>>>SIP,ISUP,H248
2)MGTS-ISUP protocol messages |

| Answer | Protocol testing is the testing the protocol's
functionality. Any given protocol should function accordin
to its RFC. Protcol testing involves testing functionality,
protocol stack, interoperability, performance etc...
I have tested SIP protocol using Ethereal tool. Ethereal is
used to capture protocol packets and to analyze them. Some
other tools we can use are Etherpeek, abacus 5000, Nethawk.
Wireshark etc.. |

| Answer | Protocol testing means to test the functionality of the
node(piece of software) which should compliance to some
standard message flow. For this one should take a
tester(Testing Unit) which should send standard messages to
the node(Item under test). Above all tester mentioned are
good but according to me K1297-G20(Tektronics)is the best
tester.
Advantages
1) Many standard Protocol are supported by this tester
2) One can add just new protocol supports easily
3) With introduction of G-20 its interface is really good,
one can easily learn.
Disadvantages
1) Load can't be tested with this, as this tester is windows
based with low processing capabilities
2) It is little bit costly as it give license per link per
protocol base
3) Support too have some issues
I think because of its high cost small companies don't use
it and also big shots doesn't have enough number K1297-G20 |

| Answer | Protocol testing ensures proper functionality of various
elements of a message. It also ensures whether it has
designed as per specification.
When we are talking about protocol testing then we must
be aware of two tools. i.e. Analyser and Simulator. Job of
analyser to ensures proper decoding along with Call and
session analysis. Job of simulator is to simulate various
entities of networking element.
e.g. In GSMA interface we may simulate BSC, where the system
under test may be MSC.
I ve used
NetHawk EAST simulator
Analyser:
NetHawk M5,RADCOM, WIRESHARK etc. |
| Saumitri [ISPL] |

| |
| Answer | Protocol testing is a big picture of compliance to
Standards of IETF/RFC(request for Comments). Each protocol
have defined actions for its functionality provided by a
number. The standards are set and agreed upon by many
engineers using internet.
If any product is using this standatrds in their devices
they are interopble with other vendor devices as both are
meeting standards. For network protocols IXIA is the best
tool for this compliance testing. |
| Uma Mahesh [ISPL] |

| Answer | Protocol testing is usually used in companies working in the development and testing of communication devices, for example cisco, juniper, alcatel ... are working on the development of routers ,switches and other networking devices, here protocol testing means testing of routing and switching protocols, companies working in telecom domain, wireless domain, security domain may also do their respective protocol testing.
In generic protocol testing means the verification of the different rules mentioned in the protocol standard. This may be checking the protocol packet structure, their algorithm ,different features supported or it may be interoperability or performance of the protocol ,
you may try http://www.zframez.com for some more detailed information about protocol testing. |
