orifice is nothing but a plate having hole at the centre
.when it is placed across a flow line a differential
pressure is created across the orifice due the diff. in the
dia of orifice and pipe line.this diff pressure is directly
proportional to the flow of the liquid.this differential
pressure is given to the differential pressure transmitter.

Answer / sandy
orifice is the flow element, placed in process line for
measurement of liquid or gas flow.
it is used to create differential pressure required for
measurement using dp transmitter.

Answer / joby
oriface plate can be used a primary sensing element for
differential pressure transmitters.basic principle is to
make restrictions in flow to obtain differential
pressure.which will be directly proposional to the flow
rate.

Answer / hvkkumar,mtech,instrumentation
orifice is variable restriction flow meter,it has two
tapings befor restriction and after restriction connect to
differntial manometer this pressure head is propotional to
the flow rate,it is based on bernuolis law and continutiy
equation.

orifice is a used as a primary element for flow
measurement.the differential pressure created by the
orifice is propotional to the flow rate.it is very cheap
and easy to install
