Detailed working of a diesel generator set ?
Answer / pankajkumar.s
Basically DG set is a combination of 4 Stroke Engine & Alternator.in DG set Engine is Used as Prime Mover.
A)Engine:-4 stroke Engine is Work in 4 stroke that is 1)Suction 2)Compression 3)Power 4)Exhaust.In suction stroke Air is taken From surrounding by using Air intake valve. In compression stoke with the help of piston Air is Compressed to High Velocity & High Pressure. In power stroke Fuel is injected by Drain valve.same time power is produce in power stroke.same power will pool down your piston downward.in Exhaust stroke after combustion of fuel some gases are produced same gases is exhausted with the help of exhaust valve.same piston is connected to crank shaft n crank shaft is connected to Alternator rotor .So that rotor is rotated as crank shaft rotates.
2)Alternator :Basically Alternator consist of Rotor Winding and Stator winding(also called armature). In rotor winding field is created,so Flux is cut by Stator winding.and according to faraday's law of electromagnetic induction Emf is produced in stator or armature winding.same output is coupled to your load.

In alternator generally we give DC voltage to field of alternator but field (excitor)produce Ac & converts into DC by rotating rectifier(RR ) then fed to rotor .my question is why we cannot give dc voltage directly to rotor instead of Excitor & RR ?
