What is the difference between Functional requirement and
business requirements?

What is the difference between Functional requirement and business requirements?..

Answer / indranil bhakat

In the domain of Business Analysis or Requirement Engineering there is no hard and fast rule; it is all guidelines. In object oriented terms it is an abstract class and the concrete implementation is driven by one’s particular need.

As per my experience, I feel a Business Requirement is something inline with the Business Goal. To accomplish a particular objective in business a Business Requirement is specified. This Business Requirement could be achieved in various ways, either with the help of IT automation, Industrial Automation, Process or Operation restructuring etc.

Now the portion of Business Requirement which would be accomplished by IT automation need to be further defined in detail. Here the Functional Requirement comes into picture. Thus, functional requirements are the ones, which would specify the behavior of the system, i.e. how the system would achieve the particular business requirement.

If you are handling a product testing and if there are around 100 test cases and in them few test cases are failed then at the end of the day how will you treat whether the product is pass/fail.? consider the failed test cases are in functional requirements.
