can we cretae views in universe level?..

Answer / v.sivakumar

In the universe level there is a concept named derived
tables.

We can create a derived table with our own query comparing
2 or more tables as per our requirement and we can generate
reports using the object from that derivesd tables.

In universe level , derived table is consider as View.

can we cretae views in universe level?..

Answer / mark

No.

BusinessObjects has the concept of derived tables though.
These are created and held at the universe level. The main
problem is that they are designed by the universe designer
and if this is a different person to the DBA, they will
often get missed in impact analysis when changing database
tables. Similarly they won't perform as well as a solution
based at the database level.

I am working on Business Objects-reporting side. Database is Teradata. I have two questions here: 1. We will be working only on Infoview on QA environment. Do I need to add ODBC entries for the QA database server on my machine to be able to create/refresh Infoview reports? I will not be using Desk_I or Web_I rich client. 2. Once reports are developed,Admin team would migrate the reports to Production and make these available to business users. The reports are Refresh on Open. Would the business users need to have the ODBC entries of Production database server in their machines to be able to refresh these reports?
