what is the purpose of inter cooler in multistage compressor

Answer / khalid
inter cooling purpose is to reduce the temperature of the
compress gas which reduce its volume, so the work done by
the comperessor will be less for less volume, which will
reduce the input power.
after the inter cooler there should be a seperetor to
prevent any liqude from entering the comperessor.

Inter cooler is provided after lp cylinder ,that reduces the temperature of the air delivered by lp cylinder at constant pressure so that the amount of work required to compress air in next(hp cylinder) stage is less ,hence the efficiency of compressor is increased.

During compression the temperature of compressed air goes
up and this intercooler is provided to cool this compressed
air to safe value.Intercooler is nohing but a heat
exchanger which cools the compressed air so that it can be
compressed again and again depending on requirement.

The basic principle is that the steady flow compression or expansion is directly proportional to the specific volume of the fluid. Therefore, inter-cooling purpose is to reduce the temperature of compressed gas which inturn reduces the volume so work done will reduce.

Inter-coolers are provided between successive stages of a multi-stage compressor to remove the heat of compression hence reduces the work of compression (power requirements). The work of compression (power requirements) is reduced by reducing the specific volume through cooling the air. Thus inter-cooling affects the overall efficiency of the machine.

In intercooler compressed gas from lp cylinder is to be cooled
by making compression less adiabatic & more isothermal,it will reduce the work of compression in hp cylinder.
Also due to intercooling temperature of gas decreases ,which
results in decrease in volume & increase in density of the gas.So ultimately volumetric effficiency increases.

Intercoolers are used to reduce the temperature of the incoming refrigerant from the previous compressor so that the volume of the previously compressed vapour refrigerant reduces and work requirement on the next compressor get reduced this result in less input power requirement. A separator is also used along with it to prevent the entry of any liquid refrigerant to next compressor.

intercooler is provided to reduce the temperature of
compressed gas from 180deg celcius. This is necessary for
next stage of compression
