I would like to add more on the previous answer. As stated
earlier trip circuit supervision relay will monitor the
proper functioning of trip circuits based on the feedback
signal obatained from the tripped circuit.if the circuit
has not tripped even after getting trip command, then as a
preventve measure sometimes LBB ie local breaker back up
will act upon to prevent any further damage to the system
due to any fault.

trip circuit supervision relay is the relay which
supervises the trip circuit of the circuit breaker. It even
tests wheather dc supply to trip circuit is under proper
condition or not. some times trip circuit gives signal to
circuit breaker, but circuit breaker doesn't break the
circuit, then supervision relay makes circuit to break by
LBB.

Answer / k.prakashchandra
This relay is used to supervise the tripping circuit and to
provide alarm ,independent of breaker status, for 1)loss of
dc supply2)faults in trip coil or cables 3)faults on the
breaker aux contacts 4)faults in the relay itself

as its name indicate ...it works like a supervisor used to control the complete tripping circuit if there is a fault in controlling supply (dc) it sense it and gives a command to breaker.
