what is difference betwen genrator and alternator?

generator is a kommon term which denotes a device which
produces power either it may be AC or DC,
but alternator is device (generally large generators, which
has stationary armatur but rotating field) which produces AC
power only.

alternator is also a generator, it is called alternator from the word alternating current (alternator carry a.c. only).
