ceiling fan consists of a single phase induction motor,as it is not self starting..so to start it we use capacitor and run also using the same capacitor...

the capacitor is used to give the motor its starting
torque.. without the capacitor the fan wouldnt start
spinning.. although if u gave it a push it would run..

if there is shaded pole motor are used then there is no
need of the capacitor but when there is permanent capacitor
are used as fan motor then only then capacitor must be used
for high starting torque to rotate the fan as usual

The basic concept beyond using a capacitor in the ceiling
fans is that:
In the ceiling fans we use induction type motors which
requires a starting torque.so in order provide the starting
torque we use these capacitors.

IF their is permanet capaacitor are used for as an fan
motor then it must use the capcitor their is need to
increse the starting torque of the motor to running the fan
as we need.Also to used as fiter in ckt.
