Describe how a salient pole / projecting pole rotor differs from a cylindrical rotor and sta..

Answer / praful nandankar

Cylindrical poles have uniform air gap, small diameter and
long axial length. They are used for tubogenerators having
high rotor peripheral speed. On the other hand, salient
poles have minimum uniform reluctance along d-axis and
maximum reluctance along q-axis.They have non-uniform air
gap, larger diameter andsmall axial length. They are used
for hydrogenerators having small rotor peripheral speed.
