The use of a an Electrical substation is either to step
up / stepdown the voltage of the transmission line to suit
the voltage level to be distributed either directly or
indirectly to the consumers. Normally, voltage will be
stepped down for the distribution purpose.
Transmission voltage is 400 KV in India. It will be stepped
down to 400 KV / 220 KV / 132 KV / 33 KV / 11 KV or 415V
level to suit to the requred level.

step up or step down using transformer. The secondary of
transformer will feed to many feeders.for measurement and
protection of devices in substation there will be CT and PT.

During the troubleshooting of an inoperative shunt generator, you found the voltage to be 2+ volts; what is known from this. Is it (1). odds are the armature is good (2). odds are there is no field current flowing in field windings (3). odds are the armature is bad (4). both 1 & 2 are correct (5). both 2 & 3 are correct
